Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I'm thinking through my life trying to remember if I've ever been to a restaurant with such bland food. I think this is the second worst restaurant I've been to (second only to a cheap coney island bar in Detroit). I wouldn't write this except the other reviews had me thinking I was in for some great Mexican food. Sadly, I feel like I just ate a plate of plain oatmeal. The burrito was huge, but what good is that if there is no flavor? The cheap frozen fries at walmart would have been better than their fries. The salsas from the salsa bar (I love salsa bars!) were few and bland. I had the smothered beef burrito and the only real flavor was the cheese. Very disappointing! I'd only recommend this place to people who enjoy 3 cups of plain oatmeal... and my mother-in-law, who eats canned pinto beans on bread for dinner.

Huge burritos, great prices!

Arrived for an early breakfast, and the breakfast burrito with sausage was fine. Potatoes in the burrito didn't seem to have any spice, making the whole think pretty bland. Green sauce helped..

Not a fancy place, but the food is excellent. Do yourself a favor and try the Carne Asada Burrito!

This is the most authentic Mexican food in Cedar City. Hell, in fact, it might even be in all of southern Utah. The burritos are about as big as my face, which makes going here worth it ONLY for the extra hungry or somewhat wasted. If you can be both, it's probably preferred. It's taken the place of the old Cedar City Sonic, and, in typical Mexican restaurant style, looks like it's covered in tetanus. But don't let that fool you, because the food is always amazing. The 24-hour thing is a plus, too, as I've only eaten there after 2am. No definitive answer as to whether the food is better or worse during the waking hours of the day.

BIG portions, fast service, wi-fi, great prices. What more can I say?
(4)Steven R.
The food is outstanding. This was not the old Sonic, it is actually the old Taco Maker building. The old Sonic now houses Robertos Taco Shop, which is also good but more expensive. Alberto's is definitely the better of the two.

This is probably one of the largest and most bright, 'shiny'/clean looking of the Berto's I think I have ever visited. The dine-in seating area is ample, there are several salsas to choose from at the salsa bar and the beverage bar has all its agua fresca varieties there along with the soda fountain. Even though the agua frescas are the commercial variety they are still pretty good and it is a treat to have them available for refill. I ordered a carnitas burrito and one cohort ordered a chicken burrito and the other a carne asada and a bean burrito [for later, or so he thought]. Each burrito is easily over 1 lb of filling. These burritos are huge. My carnitas were frresh and tender, the one cohort with the chicken burrito was pretty disappointed as the chicken was overly seasoned with cumin and ended up ordering a bean burrito and took it with him on the road. The other cohort eagerly ate his carne asada burrito and still a bit hungry, dove into the bean burrito he had planned to save for later. We teased that he ate 6 lbs of burrito, a slight exaggeration but not far from the truth.

Best Mexican food in town. Can't beat the price either. The drive through is a little rough. I would also use cash. I've had some disputes in the past with this place. Won't keep from coming back though.
(4)A M.
Don't let the exterior fool you, this place is a gem. Loved the chicken taco... and chicken burrito was packed full of meat. Homemade, thick chips and salsa. Would go again.
(5)Jenna E.
Locally owned and operated. Absolutely no complaints. LOVE LOVE LOVE Albertos!
(5)Mike B.
I think this place will always be on my short list when in Cedar city. I love the carne asada burrito. This restaurant is fairly clean and nice looking. The salsa bar is OK, I only like one of the four choices. My daughters enjoyed their enchiladas. I'll be back.
(4)Bill B.
Traveling from Las Vegas back to Aspen and were looking for the now closed City Cafe and deli. This place was in the parking lot, we were hungry and did not want to waste a lot of time. This was our lucky situation. The food here is just excellent. The chicken was excellent and portion generous. The weak point was the guacamole. Would stop here again.
(4)Peter C.
The ham & egg breakfast burrito was fast, hot, fresh and cheerfully served. The price was inexpensive, the portion size was just right even without eating the tortilla (I'm on a no wheat diet). It always amazes me how happy the Hispanics are at the crack of dawn-- maybe it's the music and singing along that helps. Anyway, I'll be back!
(5)Cindy P.
Never thought I'd give a drive thru Mexican place 4 stars, excellent enchiladas and crunchy tacos. Very good!
(4)Leslie S.
I had a fish taco and my mom got a beef taco. We shared a carne asada. With refried beans and rice, there was more than we could eat, but that did not stop us from getting a delicious flan afterwards. Alberto's is a former fast-food joint. It has retained that atmosphere to a large degree, but the food is far better than the former chain. We found it to be clean and the service quick, with a good assortment of dishes. I am visiting from the south, so to my taste, the food, including the salsas, could have been more spicy. Utahns seem to prefer their food on the bland side, and so I will not complain that the food is too bland. Oh OK.... the food is a bit bland. Even so, it does have great flavor. I look forward to coming back to sample more good mex food soon.

Worst service I've ever had at any Alberto's. We came through the drive thru at 11:40 am and placed our order, we had to repeat everything multiple times and the lady was so rude. We pull up to the window and sat there for literally 20 minutes before they opened the window to get our payment and then we sat for another 5-10 minutes before one of us had to go INSIDE to get our food. The people were so rude and so slow and the food was mediocre at best. Extremely disappointed and would not recommend this place to anyone!
(1)Brittany M.
Whenever we visit family in the area we always make a point to stop by and eat here. The food is really good. But like any place there's good and bad. Pros: delicious food Prices are cheap Portions are HUGE (especially the burritos) Salsa bar (avocado dressing is amazing) Pepsi products The place is clean and there's plenty of seating They have a drive thru Location is easy to get to Cons: service is slower than most places. BUT they are making food to order so... As you can see the pros outweigh the cons. And now I want a burrito.

Ssooo I'm trying to keep in mind that I am no longer in San Diego but this is a hard one. This Albertos is nothing like the originals in California. This place uses sour cream, pico de gallo and beans in everything. I have been eating carne asada fries for YEARS and have never had them like this. Not bad, but not good either. They looked good on the plate but thats about the only good thing I can say about them. We decided to give it another go and ordered a carne asada burrito and of course a California... and again nothing but sour cream, pico de gallo and beans... barely any meat at all. And they use chopped potatoes not fries which were also dripping with grease. Now onto the sauces... ugh... the verde was basically green water!!! No flavor or spice at all in any of them!!! It saddens me really... Mexican food without spice or flavor?!?!?! Sacrilege!!! I understand there are a lot of Caucasian people here but man this is depressing.

Hands down the WORST customer service I've ever had. I would give negative stars if I could. It took them 5 minutes or more for them to even take our order, we weren't acknowledged at the window for about 15 minutes. They didn't give us our receipt we asked for. My boyfriend had to go inside the restaurant to get our food after an additional 15 minutes of waiting after we paid. The "manager" stated they were slow because they had a large order before us, and that's fine, but to ignore us completely for 30 minutes is down right bad customer service. I would have liked to have been informed that we needed to wait, or atleast had the drinks we ordered. The food was alright. I ordered a California burrito that had potatoes in it instead of French fries... It didn't bother me until I realized my whole burrito was basically hard potatoes. I would never recommend this place to anyone, and I will not be returning.

We grabbed a bite at Alberto's on our way to Brian Head. It was late and they were open. Fortunately, the food was good too. I have carne asada taco special and the husband had the monster burrito. It was gigantic. 11 bucks got us a ton of food and drinks. Cheap and tasty?! Definitely a nice find.

On a recent trip to Utah I stumbled into Alberto's pretty much by chance. I wound up taking every meal there for the next 48 hours straight. Alberto's serves up some of the best Mexican food I've ever tasted, and it's open 24 hours with a drive through window. What more can you ask? I had been on the fence about staying in Cedar City another night but Alberto's sealed the deal. I even found myself seriously considering a move to Utah just so I could be around food like this. The "Mexican" food served in my home town, by comparison, is a bland, flavorless joke, swimming in melted cheese.

If you closed your eyes, and forgot you were in a walk-up-to-counter place order restaurant, the food is 4-5 star worthy When you add the price of $6.99 for a fajita plate, it jumps to 5 stars. Clean and neat, fast service, tasty food. Put this one on your list if you are driving through and regular fast food won't cut it. Fresh green peppers, perfectly Carmelized onions, tender and flavorful steak. Portions are big. Teen son did not finish his burrito!
(5)Layne P.
Excellent food. Small salsa bar that was very tasty. We ordered some chips so we could sample them all. Fast, but slow enough that you knew they were making it after you ordered. Clean. Five of us ate there and everyone thought it was tasty and was happy with their meal. I wanted to try their breakfast burrito, but I couldn't eat any more after polishing off one of their combo plates. Would give it 5 stars for the food, but I can't give a place 5 stars if I order at a counter, eat off a paper plate, and use cheap plastic utensils. Note: This is an old converted Taco Maker fast food place.
(4)Rick P.
I second all the great reviews of this place, lots of really good stuff here. But my favorites are two burritos they make: breakfast (any combo really, but I like mine with beans instead of potatoes) and their chili relleno burrito. To die for.
